The popular perception of the Bible as a divinely perfect book receives scant support from Ehrman, who sees in Holy Writ ample evidence of human fallibility and ecclesiastical politics. Though himself schooled in evangelical literalism, Ehrman has come to regard his earlier faith in the inerrant inspiration of the Bible as misguided, given that the original ****s have disappeared and that the extant ****s available do not agree with one another. Most of the ****ual discrepancies, Ehrman acknowledges, matter little, but some do profoundly affect religious doctrine. To assess how ignorant or theologically manipulative scribes may have changed the biblical ****, modern scholars have developed procedures for comparing diverging ****s. And in language accessible to nonspecialists, Ehrman explains these procedures and their results. He further explains why ****ual criticism has frequently sparked intense controversy, especially among ******ure-alone Protestants. In discounting not only the authenticity of existing manu******s but also the inspiration of the original writers, Ehrman will deeply divide his readers. Although he addresses a popular audience, he undercuts the very religious attitudes that have made the Bible a popular book. أهمية الكتاب تنبع من أمرين :

أحدهما أن في هذا الكتاب إجابة على السؤال المسيحي الشهير : "إذا كان الكتاب المقدس محرف ...فمن الذي حرفه ؟ ولماذا حرفه ؟" و الثاني أن الشهادة في حالة إيرمان هي من شاهدٍ من أهلها ،فالرجل ليس مسلما بل مسيحيًّا (أو على الأقل كان كذلك قبل أن يوصله الكتاب المقدس و دراسة مخطوطاته وحقائق تاريخ الكنيسة إلى الإلحاد ) ... وهذا الرجل توصل إلى ما توصّل إليه و هو لم يقرأ من قبل قوله تعالى " فويلٌ للذين يكتبون الكتاب بأيديهم ثم يقولون هذا من عند الله ..." ورغم ذلك بعد ألف وأربعمائة عام على هذه الآية الإلهية يأتي أحد علمائهم ليضع بخطوط حمراء صدق وتأكيد هذه الآية القرآنية ... فيتهم هو أيضًا النساخ بتحريف الكتاب المقدس... بل وبضياع نصوصه للأبد ..!
